ALT was shortlisted by an independent judging panel of industry experts as a finalist in the awards held at Sheffield City Hall on Wednesday 17th May alongside two large leisure trusts Pendle Leisure Trust and Sport Aberdeen.
SPORTA is the national association of leisure and cultural trusts and runs a yearly award ceremony to promote the unique and distinctive nature of leisure and culture trusts and the important contribution they make to the improvement in health and wellbeing in local communities around the UK.
Community Development Manager Peter Le Rossignol said on receiving the award on behalf of ALT:
“Ashford Leisure Trust is proud to have been recognised nationally by SPORTA for its work in championing diversity across Ashford and the county of Kent. Our aim is to increase the number of people taking part in physical activity on a regular basis and provide an inclusive programme of activities for all. The award reflects the hardwork of our staff to achieve this aim."
Ashford Leisure Trust offers a comprehensive range of inclusive sport and leisure activities for disabled people aged up to 80 years old from across the county of Kent. The programme of activities include: a weekly programme of sports coaching in 10 different sports, a year round programme of inclusive sports competitions involving 15 of Kent’s special schools, providing work experience and placements for young people with learning disabilities and supporting local talented athletes who have a disability.
